In today's world the images you present of yourself and your work can mean the difference between getting that dream job or business or not. As they say "image is EVERYTHING". So why not set yourself and/or your business up for success by hiring a professional photographer to take those images. Stop the selfies and blurry cell phone photos! Invest in yourself and I am sure it will pay off!
Recently I have been doing more and more shooting for the corporate world. at almost all of the headshots I've done lately, my clients have told me "All I have for my Linkdin profile is a selfie." Or a photo they cropped the other person in the photo out of, haha. Those types of images don't exactly read "I'm a professional and I take my work seriously"
Headshots can be a fun and painless experience. But there is an art to getting a perfect headshot.... Not to scare you, but it really comes down to YOU. I can have the perfect settings, lighting and it can be clear and sharp. But if my subject isn't "Feeling It" then it will read across their face (this goes for ALL photos). So with that being said, go into your headshot session with 2 things in mind:
1) What you are wearing can make a difference. Dress for the job you want or in some cases have. whether that means suit and tie for the corporate world vs Small Business Owners, who have a little more freedom in what they can wear because most of the time they are representing themselves. Examples Florist, Stylist, Shop Owners... In those cases you may want to have something on that would represent your business. Maybe that means a logo or simply a cleaned up variation of your normal work clothing. Just be comfortable in whatever you choose to wear.
2) Be YOU! After all that is what we are going for. I want to see a story behind those eyes. A slight squint from laughing or a strong piercing eye will change the message of your image drastically! Whatever the look or message you are wanting to send give it your all! Confidence comes from the eyes. We don't want to see and deer in the headlights, folks! Relax and enjoy the process. If you only do it half way we will notice!
So let's recap! Invest in yourself, wear appropriate clothing and show your confidence in your images! Not too bad, right? So when you are ready to stand out from the crowd, (in a good way) Make sure to contact your local portrait photographer!
